Remodeling - Day Twenty-Nine

Today I got up early and continued to stain the mantel. We wanted it a little darker so I put another coat on. Harry worked on doors and door frames again.

While all that was going on our contractor, Danny, had finished dismantling the entire Guest Bathroom and started putting concrete board on the floor. After Danny was done with the concrete board he started putting up the lights for the hallway and entrance. He finished the entrance and turned it on and called me over to show me a crack running down the glass dome. You couldn't see it when it wasn't lite up because the crack was between the glass. So we had him take it down and will exchange it at a later date. He did manage to put the light up in the hallway but we didn't have a bulb so it's up but not currently working.

After staining I tackled another big project. The French doors in the living room, they were green and we wanted to paint them the accent color, blue. We were afraid of removing them because once you do it's always tough to get the door to hang just right again. But we wanted a good paint job and I also wanted to paint the trim and this was the only way. So I removed the two doors and got to work. It was a long process.. lot's of taping off. And to make matters worse I was working outside and it was extremely windy. I finished one door and laid it upright against the side of the house. A gust of wind came and pushed the door over nearly crushing Daisy who was sunbathing. Luckily it missed her by a few inches and no glass broke. I worked on the second door and put is aside to dry and purposely angled it so no wind would be able to push it over... I we get really strong gusts of wind and sure enough it knocked it over and this time we weren't so lucky. A portion of the door started to separate from the rest. I managed to knock it back in place and everything seemed over.. other then a minor separation that Danny would be able to fix. After I finished the door Harry and I rehung them and of course the door that was damage pulled apart again just enough to make it so we couldn't lock the door. We manage to get both doors to shut and would be talking to our contractor in the morning to see if this was fixable.

Only manage to tackle two thing but man that took the entire day. By the end of the day I was exhausted and just rested in front of the TV.

And for some non-house news... I am starting my BTS piece for The Guild Season Three. I am in the middle of converting some video files for my piece.. hope to starting editing it in the coming days.

An Unexpected Surprise

When our contractor Danny started he had brought this tiny computer with him to check his email and such and since the mini's came out I have wanted one. I don't have a smart phone and don't plan on getting one so I wanted something to check my email when I'm away from home. I mentioned this in passing and today Fedex showed up with a package. Of course when I saw the box I knew what it was. Harry had told me that my birthday present would be a little late this year and the package was addressed to Harry so I knew this was my Birthday gift. Harry got me a Dell Inspiron mini. It runs on Windows XP which I love and he upgraded a few of the features. I can't wait to use it.

Remodeling - Day Twenty-Eight

Today I started to stain the fireplace mantle. I wasn't sure how many layers I would be doing but the first one I did was very light and I couldn't figure out why until my brush accidentally fell to the bottom of the can and when I went to put the stain on the wood it was super dark. It seems that I didn't mix the stain up and all the darkness went to the bottom. So I did another coat in the darker color and then had to wait for it to dry. While I was doing this Harry started taking down the door of the Master Bedroom. He didn’t have to paint this door since our contractor had already done that a couple of days earlier. So He just took off the hinges, spray painted them and the screws in a metallic silver color. While the paint was drying he exchanged the door knobs.

Around 10 am or so our contractor Danny showed up and started dismantling the Guest Bathroom and a few cabinets in the kitchen over the island. While that was going on Harry finished with the door to the Master Bedroom and put that door back in place. The next door he tackled was the door to the Master Bathroom. He took that door down, removed the hinges and spray painted them in a metallic silver color. Once that was done he put 2 coats of white on each side of the door. Once both sides were dry he replaced the doorknob and put the bathroom door back into place. While he did this I put a third coat of stain on the mantel as both Harry and I wanted it to be darker then the floors.

After our contractor had left for today, Harry and I went shopping at Lowe’s. We were shopping for sconces for the Entrance and Hallway. We also picked up a new light for the guest bathroom as well as a vanity (sink, facet and cabinet) for the Guest Bathroom. The vanity we had in mind was one with glass vessel sink. Although that vanity looks great… the huge price tag of about 500 bucks was a little downer. We then looked at a number of different vanities. In the end we had to choose between the glass vessel vanity and a vanity that cost about half as much but still looked cool. The price wasn’t the only decision factor, as the glass vessel vanity just didn’t go together with the rest of the house, since it is a little too modern for us. So we went with the other vanity. We also picked up some tile flooring for the guest bathroom.. we looked a few options but finally went with the same tile we did in the master bath. We just really like that tile and it feels great on the bare feet.

Shopping is so much fun but man it adds up quickly.

Remodeling - Day Twenty-Seven

Today I brought the Desks in from the Garage and started to assemble the first one. Harry got up by the time I started the second one and joined me. Once that was done we discussed several options on how to place the desks in the room. Most of these options just didn’t work, since we bought two fairly large desks. Funny thing is that the desk looked so much smaller at Staples or maybe we thought that our office was way larger than it actually is.

To make a long story short we finally figured out a configuration for the desks that works fairly well in the room. Now it looks like we are working in cubicles. But for the most part it works.

After we had decided configuration of the desks we brought all the boxes with our electronic and computer stuff in and started setting up the office. Harry's iMac was setup in no time at all. Then we went on the search for several cables and power cords. Once we were done with that we setup the Router and in no time at all we could go online. While I was checking my emails Harry used the time to give his Mac a good cleaning as that computer was pretty dirty.

The Internet we get up here is free, since the Internet Tower is on our property and we pay for the electricity to run it. That said… the Internet isn’t quite that what we are used to. As long as you only intend to read emails and surf the web, you’re fine. If you want to watch streaming videos, your best bet is to let the entire video load and watch it after it has loaded, otherwise you’re really getting frustrated. We checked the speed of the internet… and it starts out with a decent speed but isn’t able to maintain that speed. Depending on how much money that tower takes in electricity it might be worth a consideration getting a decent satellite Internet solution. Guess we will have to look into that in more detail.

Remodeling - Day Twenty-Six

Today started off with me cleaning and setting up the kitchen while Harry was painting the door of the Coat Closet and the the Door Jam. Once he was done with that he replaced the lock of the door and put new silver colored door knobs on. Then it was time to spray paint the hinges in a silver color as well.

Once all that was accomplished, we headed out to the Rental to pick up the stuff that we wanted to give to recycling and a few more bags that would be going to Charity (Out of the Closet). So we got there and found our landlord and his wife busy cleaning the Rental. We put the remaining bags into my pickup truck and then gave the keys back to our landlord. We then ended up chatting with Bill and his wife for quite some time. They are very nice people and we’ll be inviting them to our house warming party.

After that we dropped off the stuff for Charity and then headed back to our house. On the way we stopped in Santa Clarita to go shopping at Stater Bros. I haven't shopped at a Stater Bros since I lived in Corona as they don't have them in the LA area.. it was nice to be back to one, it was always my favorite grocery store. We bought a lot, we planned on stocking up a bit since it's a 20 minute drive to here. We wound up spending just under $500, which I expected but Harry thought we were be way over. We did have two shopping carts both full to the top. After that we headed home and unloaded the food and stored it in our new kitchen. After that we had dinner and watched some TV.

Cleaning the Rental

Today Harry and I didn’t get anything done in our new house, since we had to drive to the rental in Reseda and do some clean up. We had rented a steam cleaner at Ralphs yesterday and hoped to steam clean the office and Master Bedroom first. But when I tried in the morning, the steam cleaner just didn’t want to work. So we drove out to Reseda and exchanged the steam cleaner for a working one. Once we got to the Rental we moved the stuff that we hadn’t taken yesterday into the garage. After that was accomplished I started cleaning the laminate floors, while Harry gave the carpets a good vacuuming. Harry did a great job at prepping the carpets for the steam cleaning. After that Harry and I took turns steam cleaning room after room, when we were done the rooms looked fantastic.

After the steam cleaning we moved the stuff we no longer wanted to the curb. If everything goes according to plan that stuff should be picked up by the city on Monday or Tuesday, at least that what hasn’t been taken by people in the neighborhood. And as we were taking stuff out things were being removed from the pile. Our next door neighbors grabbed our dining table and chairs moments after we put them out there.

After we were done with that, Harry and I packed up my pick up truck with all the remaining stuff from the garage. The rest of the stuff that just didn’t want to fit in the truck went into my jeep. After that was done we drove out to our new house in Agua Dulce. Now all of our stuff has been moved. Tomorrow we will have to go back to pick up the recycling stuff and the stuff for charity and to give the keys back to our landlord.

It was a long and exhausting, but very successful day.

MOVING DAY!!!!!! (Remodeling Day - Twenty-Five)

The Day is finally here.. were are official moving too our new house. I didn't think this day would ever come. Though the new house isn't done with remodel or painting the major stuff has been done. I'm very excited to move in so this new house feels like our home, because so far it doesn't. Yes I go there everyday to work but then go back to the rental to sleep. I'm hoping with this move the house will actually feel like it's ours.

The day started with some more packing as I couldn't get it all done the day before. Harry had to run an errand while I went to Ralphs to rent a carpet steamer. Once Harry got back we headed to U-haul to pick up our truck at 10:30am. On the way there I realized that my drivers license had expired two day prior on my birthday and though I renewed it I hadn't gotten my new one yet. Was afraid I wasn't going to be able to rent it. So we get there and before we start I mention that my licenses had expired but is renewed and valid. She asked if I had anything to prove that and of course I didn't since I thought about it while driving there. Well they need a valid DL so I could not rend the U-haul. I then asked if Harry could rent it with his Austrian DL and she said no that he would need an international DL, which Harry then said.. "Oh I have one of those" and gave to the lady who said great this will work. As she was filling out the form she got an error and then informed us that he International DL had expired 3 months prior and we could not use it. Now we are screwed, as we can't rent the U-Haul without a valid DL. So I get on the phone and start calling and texting friends hoping one would be willing to come help us out. The folks I did get a hold of were either busy or working... so we hit another dead end. I then figured I'd go to the DMV and see if I could get proof that my license was valid. So Harry and I drove to the DMV, stood in line for about 15 minutes and got up to the counter. I explained my situation and she was happy to print me out a temp DL. So we headed back to the U-Haul and rented the truck. Now our schedule was off by an hour with this unexpected detour.. we were determined to get back on track.

As we were loading up the truck my friend Will came over to pick up a few items that we no longer wanted. Once he was done we finished packing up the truck. We got the 17' truck and got almost everything loaded. We had forgotten our tools so we couldn't dismantle the bed and we left a few odds and end that we would pick up tomorrow. We also packed up Harry's truck with some of the overflow. It took a lot longer to load the truck then I expected.. but then again it was just Harry and I. We got done around 3:30pm

So we were off.. I drove the U-Haul and Harry drove his truck. Along the way Harry stopped to pick up some lunch as we were starving. I got to the house about 15 minutes before him. We ate lunch and did a few things around the house. We hooked up our TV to Direct TV and with a little assistance got that all working. We watched a little bit a TV before heading out to unload the truck. We first unloaded stuff to our back deck that we knew was going into the house. We then drove the truck over to the garage to unload stuff that will be either in my Toy Room or storage. It was night fall when we finally got done. We had some dinner and watched some TV. Since we haven't gotten our mattress for our new bed we just put on the floor the queen mattress of our old bed, now the guest bed.. it was a long day but things are finally coming together

Final Packing Day

Today was spent packing up the old rental.. all day long we packed and packed and packed. This was all the stuff that we kept around while we were living there and man was there a lot. I didn't expect so many boxes but it never stopped. By the end of the day I was about 90% packed but I was still disappointed as I wanted everything packed and ready to go for tomorrow. Oh well you could only do so much and man am I'm tired.. tomorrow is going to be a very long day...

Remodeling - Day Twenty-Four

Today we got an early start as we had a ton of things to accomplish. So we loaded up the truck and headed out to our house, and got there a little before 10 am. Harry started by finishing the paint job on the door jam of the office door, while I did some touch up work on the office closet. Once that was done I put the doors back on the office closet, and oh was that fun.. not a good way to start the morning. I finally got the doors on I moved on to putting the new silver door knobs on the office door.

Harry then moved on to taking off the door of the linen closet so he could paint it. Once the first coat was done he took the hardware outside to spray paint silver. After he did that he helped me "attempt" to put the office door back on. It took a few tries as the hinges were first on wrong, then backwards.. but we finally got it to work.

After the office door was put back up, Harry started painting the door jam of the linen closet and than put up a second coat on the door of the linen closet itself. After that it was time for lunch... we were so tired of out food eating it the past month we opted for Denny's.

After we had gotten back form lunch, I got busy with some touch up work while Harry finished the the second coat of paint on the door jam of the linen closet. I then started to put the doors of the closet in the guest room back in. And like the office doors it presented itself as a challenge but I finally got them on and looking good.

Once Harry was done with the linen closet door he moved on to the door of the guest bedroom. He removed it and painted his first coat. While that dried he took the hardware outside and spray painted it. While the first coat of paint was drying we tried to put out the screen door, as I wanted to start bringing in some of the furniture that we purchased a few weeks back. We had the hardest time with the screen door and my tempter had gotten the better of me and if you know me that doesn't happen often but I ripped the screen door from the track and broke one of the wheels. But it was still usable so all wasn't lose.

We then took Harry's truck to the garage and loaded up some of the furniture.. yes our property is that big that we drove to the garage from the back door. We loaded in the couch and as we were walking in the screen door got tangled in my feet so I tossed it aside (kind of forcefully) and sure enough it hit the side of the deck and tore a huge hole in it. So now we have to buy a new screen door for the back door. So it took about four trips back and forth before we got all the furniture in. It's finally starting to feel like our house.

After that Harry put a second coat of paint on the door of the guest bedroom, since he was running out of daylight that was going to be the last thing we did for the night.

This was a tough day.. it was my Birthday and though I got Birthday tweets, and facebook greetings and a few calls this day wasn't that great. I was super tired and not feeling great and my emotions went up and down all day long. I so didn't want to be doing this on my birthday but knew we had to do this in order for us to move in on Friday. I'd be in a crappy mood and then get a call or tweet and be happy, then something stupid would happen and my mood would change. I just think 24 days of remodeling and painting is taking it's toll on me. I can't wait for this to be done soon.

My 39th Birthday

It's my 39th birthday today and we have been so busy with the house that we didn't plan anything. My mood went up and down all day long. I was not happy that I had to paint for the 24th day, it was very frustrating having to be there all day. All the big stuff had been done so it was baseboards, doors, door trim and touch ups and it's very tedious work. I knew we had to be there because we plan on moving in on Friday and the place is far from being ready.. but it didn't make being there any better... but I did have moments of happiness when I would get birthday Tweets or wishes on facebook. And I'm happy to say that I got a ton of them so that was nice. I also got calls from my mom, dad, and brother along with text from my sister in law and calls from friends Darla and Will. So it wasn't all bad.. just not the way you want to spend your birthday. We did plan to go out afterwards for a birthday dinner but we got out so late and both were so tired we decided to not go out. :( Oh well... Next year will be the big 40 and I'm going to have an AWESOME party.

Remodeling - Day Twenty-Three

Today we got our usual start and left the rental in Reseda around 10 am. Shortly before 11 am we got to our house. We managed to find some space in the garage for the stuff we had transported to the house. After we were done with that we started another day of painting. I'm sooooooo tired of painting!!!!!

First on the list was some touch up work in the guest room. Harry managed to touch up the most of the spots that needed touching up before running out of paint. Guess we should have gotten a gallon of the accent paint instead of just a quart. Going to have to buy another quart...

The next thing on the agenda was to paint the door of the office and the door jam in the same white as the baseboards. Harry started on that project while I did a ton of touch up work in the living and dining room, mostly floor boards and ceiling.

About mid day Harry and I left to pick up more painting supplies and also we wanted to get some silver door knobs at Lowe’s. While we were out we picked up lunch as well.

After lunch I continued with the touch ups work in living, dining and TV room, while Harry put a second coat on the office door and on the door jam. While he did this I went out back to spray paint the door hinges and screws silver to make them the same as the new door knobs. We didn't want to have to buy all new hinges and figured this was the best solution as both Harry and I hate the gold/brass color. And I have to say they turned out pretty nice. By the time we ran out of daylight we were had spray painted all the screws and hinges for the office door.

Once we were home and ate some dinner we headed out to Staples to pick up our office desks. We did some research online and found a desk that we both liked.

Today also marks the one month anniversary of the day that we got the keys to the house ... and still we haven’t moved in !!!

    One of these days!!!!

Remodeling - Day Twenty-Two

Today started our day pretty much at the usual time. We packed up the truck and headed out around 10 am and got to the house shortly before 11 am. We just finished unpacking the truck when I got a phone call from Direct TV asking us if they could stop by earlier. Of course we said yes. Shortly after that our contractor arrived and started with the finishing touches.

While I was dealing with the guys from Direct TV, Harry started painting the inside of the closet in our office. To amuse himself he wrote a message on the inside of the closet. Once I was done dealing with the guys from Direct TV I joined me in the office and started working on some touch up work. The Direct TV guys were done quickly. They couldn’t hook up the receivers, since our TV's were still at the rental, so we will have to do it ourselves, which shouldn't be a problem.

By the time we were finished with the office our contractor let us know that he was finished as well and was ready to leave. He will most likely be back in a couple of weeks for Phase 2 of the remodel (Guest Bathroom, Kitchen and Toy Room). But before that happens Harry and I have to reassess the money situation as this phase one remodel cost us more then we had planned as we never planned to put a $6000 hardwood floor in.

After Danny had left, Harry and I and drove to Palmdale to pick up a few supplies at Home Depot. While we were out we picked up lunch as well. We got back and saw that Daisy had left her paw prints on the freshly painted windowsill. Luckily the paint was already dry when she got up there and we just wiped it clean. What is funny is her paws were on every windowsill on every window she could look out of.

After lunch I went into the living / dining room to deal with more touch up work, while Harry went into the guest room and started painting the inside of the closet in there.

So we are getting closer to finishing and it can't come soon enough.. now it's time for the time consuming little detail stuff.

Guess that's it for today.. seems like this is all I every blog about these days but to be truthful this is truly all I have been doing for the past month.

Day of Rest... yeah right!!!!

Today we took the day off from remodeling. Every week we need at least one day to recoup.. but we did anything but rest. We are so busy with the new house that we forget that we still have a ton of stuff here at our rental that needs to be packed up. So we spent today packing, catching up on emails, trying to watch some TV but feeling guilty because of all the stuff that still needs to be packed. I can't wait till this is all over...

Remodeling - Day Twenty-One

Today we got a really late start, first we went to Home Depot and picked up a more supplies for the remodel, I think we have spent over $1500 in paint alone. After that we drove back to the rental, packed up the truck and headed out to our house, we didn't get there until 1 pm. On our way to the house we picked up Panda Express for lunch. We finally started working around 1:30pm

Our contractor was busy redoing lots of the baseboards in the TV-Room, Living and Dining Room.

Harry started to put a second coat of paint on the accent wall in the master bedroom, while I taped off the remaining ledge, and then painted the first coat. Harry painted the third coat on the accent wall and then a second coat on the two ledges and I started to tape off the inside of the closet.

Once that was done we pulled out the closet doors and I started to paint one of them while Harry started painting the inside of the closet. After I was done with one door Harry took the second door and I continued to paint the inside of the closet. We had just enough daylight left to get done with the second coat of paint on the closet doors.

So today was spent in the Master Bedroom but we got a lot of tedious work done today.

I keep saying it will be one more day.. but I have no idea when this painting hell will end.

Remodeling - Day Twenty

Today we started our day at the usual time, around 10 am. We tried to find stuff that we could put into Harry pickup truck but there wasn't much that was ready to go. Which is good because it means we have taken quite a bit of stuff to our new house and only the big furniture items are left. Once we were done packing the truck we headed out. We decided to pick up some lunch and choose Panda Express. We got to the house around 11.30 am. After lunch we unpacked the truck and started the painting. No sign of the contractor today, found out he had some family issues to take care of so today will not be his last day.. it's not planned for tomorrow.

Harry started painting the Master Bedroom accent walls in the deep red (which is going to take at least 3 coats to cover nicely). I started taping off the skylights in the Living Room. Once I was done with the taping I then started painting them. Harry came out to inform me that we were out of the "red" paint so he was done for the day in the Master Bedroom. He went outside to catch a nap while I finished painting the skylights.

Once I was done with that I moved on to the Coat Closet, I was painting it the color of the majority of the living/dining room. While Harry went and touched up some walls in the Master Bedroom and the closet doors in the Office.

By the time we were done it was getting dark and we were not going to use those heat lamps to light up any room (we already made that mistake once). So we called it a night.

We should be done with the majority of the painting tomorrow, but I won't hold my breath... Will see what happens...

    Stay tuned for updates.

Remodeling - Day Nineteen

Today Harry and I had to get up super early (well for us) since Living Spaces was going to deliver our furniture between 9.30 and 11.00 am. So we got up by 8 am, packed up the truck and left for the house. Shortly before we got on the freeway I got a call from the delivery guys just to confirm that they had the right directions to get to our house in Agua Dulce, they had already left so we were racing them to the our new place. We got to the house a little before 9.30 and a few minutes later the delivery guys from Living Spaces showed up. We had them put the furniture in the one car garage, since the remodel isn’t finished yet and didn't want it to be in the way. Once that was done, Harry and I unpacked his truck and checked on the progress of our contractor.

To our surprise he had finished framing the fireplace and it looks FANTASTIC, and it's not even stained yet. It will be absolutely gorgeous once it is stained. Danny still has to grout the master bathroom and the tiles on the fireplace.

After admiring the fireplace, we started to pull the trim tape in the Entrance and Kitchen, and there were quite a few places where some touch up work had to be done. I started with that right away. Harry started painting another coat in the master bedroom. He went pretty fast doing it by himself. After that he went into the office to pull of the tape and again there were a number of places where some touch up work was needed. Once that was accomplished I taped off the ledge in the office and we started painting the ledge with an accent color. We choose to use the main color of the bedroom as accent color for the office and it looks quite nice. Once we were done with that, we painted the doors of the closet in the accent color as well.

During that time our contractor was busy redoing the baseboards. He made some progress but still has a long way to go. I really don’t think that he will be done by tomorrow evening as he has said. I have a feeling that it is going to take him at least 1 day longer. But we’ll see about that.

After we were done painting the closet doors in the office, I finished some touch up work, while Harry went into the bedroom to pull off the tape. Again there are a number of spots that need some touch up work, but we have come to expect that now. After that I started taping off the accent wall in the bedroom and Harry started painting the trim. We have decided to paint the accent wall in the master bedroom in a very dark red and it looks AWESOME. But it will take at least 1 or 2 more coats of paint until the wall is completely colored. Once it is done it will look amazing. If I could have my way, I would have painted the entire bedroom in the accent color, but Harry said it would be too dark for him.

After we finished that wall we were tired, it had been a long day so we headed back to the rental.

Video Blog - Remodel Day Eighteen

Remodeling - Day Eighteen

Today Harry and I got a late start. By 11 am we were done packing up my truck and headed out to our house. While we were on the road our contractor called and asked us to pick up another box of tiles at Lowe’s. So we stopped by Lowe’s and picked up the tiles, then picked up some lunch and headed to our house. By the time we were done with lunch and unpacked the truck it was about 12:30 or so. Our contractor had started framing up the fireplace and we will have to pick out a stain for the wood that goes best together with the hardwood floors. Guess we’ll be stopping by Home Depot this evening again. Our contractor Danny still has some tile work in the Master Bathroom to do but the fireplace needs only grout. Danny picked out the grout for the fireplace, but he asked that Harry and I to pick out the grout for the master bathroom.

The first room Harry and I ended up painting today was the Office. While I taped off the trim Harry was busy painting the walls. We made pretty good progress and were finished with the first coat of paint in the office way earlier than we expected.

After the office we started with the Master Bedroom. Again I started taping off the trim, while Harry started painting the walls. Apparently our master bedroom is larger than the office as it took us a lot longer to finish the first coat of paint. We were done with the master bedroom by 6.30 pm.

After a short break we went back to the office to start with the second coat of paint. The only problem with that was that we were slowly running out of daylight and we had no light in the office. So we took our contractors construction light and started painting the office. Shortly after we had started the second coat in the office we were sweating like we were out in the direct sunlight, as that construction light gives off a ton of heat. But we knew we had to finish the second coat of paint regardless. So this time I painted the majority of the walls while Harry painted the trim.

While painting the office I got a call from Living Spaces informing us that they will be delivering the furniture that we purchased two weeks ago tomorrow between the hours of 9:30am and 11:30am. That put a wrench in our tomorrow plans. Danny asked up to pick up a few finishing things for the house and we had planned to pick them up in the morning before heading up to the house.. but when I say morning I mean around 10am. But now we had to be at the house by 9:30am which meant we would have to leave our rental by 8:30 and be up even earlier.

So we got home from a long day of painting, dropped off the dog and then turned around and went to home depot to pick up some supplies.

We finally go home around 10pm and were exhausted. And tomorrow we will be getting up early to get to the house before the delivery truck.. with our luck the truck with show up right at 9:30am.

    The adventure continues....

Dinner and a Movie

Tonight I went out and had dinner, at Islands, with my buddy Christopher. It's been a while since we hung out so it was alot of fun catching up on our lives. After dinner we headed to AMC to catch the movie "9"

This movie looked interesting so I was happy to hear that Christopher wanted to see it as Harry didn't really have any interest. I won't go into great detail but the movie was good, not great but far from bad. I liked the story it was simple. I did wish they went into more detail about the 9 creatures, why 9 was there any significance? The machine monster were pretty sweet, especially the snake type one... very creepy stuff. This movie had some top notch actors and was animated beautifully. I look forward to watching it again.

Remolding - Day Seventeen

Today we got up early, packed up the truck and headed to the house. Once we were done unpacking the truck we went inside house and started to clean the new floor, we did the TV room first and started to lay down brown paper over the work so nothing get's on them. We then cleaned the dining and living room floors and noticed that they still looked white and sure enough it was dust, so we cleaned them for a second time and ran our finger across them and still got dust on it. We think we need a better mop as it's going to take a few more cleaning before we finally get them looking great. We then moved onto painting. While I taped up the rest of the kitchen Harry went into the office and sanded down some spots that he had spackled yesterday. Once he was done with that he went back into the kitchen and started putting a second coat of paint on the window area in the kitchen, while I painted the walls above the ledge. After we had finished that we pulled out the fridge and painted behind the fridge as well. Now the kitchen is completely done !!!

Next on the agenda was the Entrance. After I taped off the walls Harry started painting the remaining wall the same blue accent color that we had used in the dining and living room. While he did this I was busy with some touch up work in the kitchen and started taping off the beams in the living and dining room. After Lunch Harry put a second coat of paint on the accent wall in the Entrance.

Once we were done with that we turned our attention to the 2 beams. While I painted the major surface of the 2 beams with the roller, Harry used the ladder to do the trim. But all our hard work paid off.. we finished painting the living and dining rooms, both hallways, kitchen, pantry, entrance, TV room and Guest Room.

Tomorrow we will be taking a day off, but on Wednesday we’re back painting !!

Remodeling - Day Sixteen

First thing we did today was head to Home Depot... We had to pick up 15 more boxes of laminate hardwood flooring, 1 can of paint for the living room, paper to protect the hardwood floor, painters tape and some cleaning supplies. We spent another 1100 bucks at Home Depot. Once we were done shopping it dawned on us that we had brought my Jeep instead of Harry's pickup truck. We managed to fit all the stuff we had bought, but it was quite a tight fit. Once we got back home we put all the supplies in Harry's truck and used the remaining space to fill it up with stuff that had to go to the house as well. We got to the house around 2 pm.

Once we had finished unpacking the truck we checked on the progress that our contractor had made. They had managed to get about half of the floor in the dining room done and it was looking AWESOME. We then had a quick bite for lunch and then jumped into painting.

I first taped off the remaining walls in the Kitchen. Once that was done I then started painting the remaining walls above the ledge while Harry started painting the walls around the window in the kitchen. We really like the color and it’s already hard to imagine what the kitchen looked all white. While we were doing that our contractor made a lot of progress with the floor and had sanded down the texture wall in the office.

After finishing up with a few minor touch ups in the kitchen Harry and I went to work in the office. By the time I tapped off the one wall and windows we were only able to get a little bit of paint on the walls as night was falling and there is no light in that room. Danny and his helpers stayed a few hours late so they could finish laying down the laminate hardwood flooring. They got about 99% of it done, still have a few things to complete but it looks great. We now have a beautiful hardwood floor in the TV-Room, living and dining room.

Tomorrow Harry and I are back for more Painting!!! We are sooooo over painting..

I will keep you guys posted on the progress !!
