More Editing of Guild BTS

Seems like all I every do now is Blog about Guild stuff. But it is what is consuming my life now... with The Guild DVD and The Guild Podcast.. so here is more Guild stuff.

After watching BSG finale I started working on the two BTS pieces. I had done notes on one and sent my 5th pass to Kim and Felicia for finale notes. Then I spent the rest of the day editing the second piece. It's a slow process as I string out the interview bites then have to sift through 60 hours of footage to find the right shot that could cover what the interviewee is talking about. Around 11pm I was spent.. I wasn't feeling well and I could barely keep my eyes open. I intended to stay up to 1am like I have the past week but just couldn't do it.

Still have two weeks to get these pieces done.

Battlestar Galactica Finale

Well before I started editing my Guild BTS I wanted to take two hours and watch the final episode of Battlestar Galactica. It aired on Friday night and was dying all weekend to see it.

It was a two hour and 11 minute roller coaster ride. Just when you thought it was over, it sped up and twisted. I enjoyed the ending. It was kind of like LOTR ending. There were many endings. they had a lot of story lines to wrap up

    Some of the highlights:

Roslyn saying thank you to the Dr... this is when I started to cry. The fact that he was about to break down did it for me.

Loved seeing the old and new Cylons battling together.

The Galacitca crashing into the Cylon ship was beautiful. Then when it did it's final jump and looked as though it was going to break apart.. so good.

Adama saying goodbye to the Galactica.. very moving and a fitting end to that awesome ship.

When they did the montage of the ships flying into the sun and you hear the original BSG music.. gave me chills.

When Adama and Roslyn say goodbye to Lee and Starbuck.. that's when the water works began and they continued with the Adama and Rosyln scene in the shuttle, then she dies, then Adama puts his wedding ring her.. just thinking about scene brings tears to my eyes.

So many good things. They still left a few unanswered questions that fans could interpret different ways.

I was so happy to see that they showed up a few days after they reached "Earth". And the idea of present humans on Earth are decedents of Hera the Cylon/Human hybrid.. which means we all have a little Cylon in us.

All in all it was a fantastic ending to one of the most dramatic and woderful series I have ever watched. I'm very sad to see it go, but enjoyed the wild ride it took me on.

Guild Stuff All Day

Today I had several folks come over to my place so I could shoot some pick up questions for the BTS pieces. It was great seeing some of the Guild folks, it's been a few months since we all hung out.

After the reshoots Jenni and I actually interviewed them for our Knights of the Guild podcast and had some very fun and entertaining conversations with them.

We finished with all that stuff around 3pm. I then started working on editing one of my BTS pieces for The Guild DVD. I'm actually working on notes for one and starting my second one.

I just wish I had more time in the day. I finally finished in the wee hours and went to bed. I hope to finish both pieces by tomorrow night.

Jared's Birthday Party

Today my friend Jared had his birthday party at our house. Since we have such a great backyard, he ask if he could have his party here. Of course I said yes as I was actually going to offer our place. So he got here around 5 with his girlfriend and they began to set up. I got home from work early around 6 and the party began around 7. There were about 20 or so people and it was alot of fun. It was cold but we had an awesome fire using our brand new fire pit. We had beer pong but first you had to get your "prom" picture taken with Jared. It was really fun night and everyone seemed to have a great time. I got to see alot of my Guildie friends including Felicia Day and I met some really cool friends of Jared's. I'm super tired but it was a fun night and worth putting off watching the series finale if BSG, season finale of Clone Wars and a new episode of Dollhouse.

More Editing BTS and Microcast

Tonight when I got off work I did the same thing, went home ate dinner and hung out with Harry for a few hours. Then got to editing. I had gotten notes from Felicia about the BTS and I agreed with her notes but in order to get what she wanted I will have to do some re-shooting this weekend. So I stopped that piece and started another piece. I worked on that for about three hours and needed a change of pace so around 12:30am I switched over to editing Knights of the Guild Microcast #2 which I finished around 1:30am, I sent it to Jenni for approval and then went to bed so I can do it all again tomorrow.

Compliments

Tonight just before I left for home one of my new Junior Editors came to me and said "You are the happiest Post Super I have ever known. You are always smiling and in a good mood." That meant so much to me. I don't hear it that often, normally in post you get nothing but complaints, so it was nice to hear something positive. I try and run my post department like my boss Darla does. She is the nicest and sweetest boss you could ask for and I try to use her as an example. I'm glad it's paying off.

More Editing

Once again after a long day at work I got home, spent a few hours with the hubby then started to edit one of my BTS pieces for The Guild. I think this will be my 4th note pass. This piece is really shaping up.

It's so much fun to look back at all the great times we had last year shooting season two.

AM Editing

When I got up this morning, I had gotten another set of notes for my second pass of the BTS piece. Kim mentioned that she would be showing the piece to Felicia so I decided to tackle the notes before I headed into work. I spent about two hours working on the notes getting the piece exactly as the requested. All the notes were valid and I think the piece is better because of them. I outputted and sent it to Kim. Next up are their final notes and that piece will be ready and I can move on to my second piece.

Because I stayed home a bit longer to edit the piece I was late coming into work. But today being St. Patrick Day and folks and their doctor appointment not many people were here when I did come in . After a crazy few weeks today has been fairly quiet... but of course it's only 5pm and it seems that thing always happen when I'm about to leave work. I'll keep you posted.

Another Long Day

Today was one of those days.. a very Manic Monday. My AE was coming in late so I got here a bit early and before I even got into work I was receiving phone call about computer issues. I get to work and the computer issue grew, I also had come avid issues, deck issues, tape issues and many more issues. It wasn't until 11:30am that I was finally about to turn on my computer and sit down to check my work emails.

The day wasn't any better.. lot's of work, digitizing, putting out fires here and there. We also had two new employees start today and of course they are night people so I had to stick around and train one and get the other one settled in. I didn't get out of work until 8pm.

Once home I ate dinner with Harry, watched some TV, and then began to work on some notes that I had received earlier in the day from Kim about the BTS piece I submitted yesterday. I finished with the notes around 11:30pm. Hung out for some quality time with Harry until round 12:30am and finally said good night and went to sleep.

Comic Con 2009

Whoo hoo.. today I registered for San Diego Comic Con 2009. For the past six years I have gone to comic con. At first I would go as a guest of my friend Tom. But the past few years I have gone as my own professional. Which means I go for free because I work in the entertainment industry. I missed most of last years because of Family coming into town then and my wedding. So I am really looking forward to going this year. I've already booked my hotel room back in August and now I have my ticket.. I'm ready to geek out...

Editing The Guild BTS

I spent all day today about 14 hours editing a 10 minute piece for The Guild behind the scenes. I can't say what it was about but at the end of the day I was happy with the out come. I made a quicktime and sent it to my producer Kim Evey. Now I wait for notes and start working on my other pieces. 1 down many more to go.

The Guild BTS

Now that the schedule has been moved up on when my Guild BTS stuff is due I will be focusing all my free time for the next 15 days on finishing these pieces. Today I finished digitizing the rest of the tapes. I now have everything I shot in my system and I can began editing by BTS pieces. Talk about being stressed out, in the end I get these done in time to be put on The Guild season two DVD. Wish me luck...

The Ready Room #50

Got up early even though it's the weekend. I have a lot of things to do today. First up was The Ready Room #50. Recorded with Jen and Rick at 10am, got done around 11am and started to edit the podcast. Being super busy I asked Rick to add music which normally takes me hours to do. I was waiting for several other rpg posts and a song that Rick was creating before I could send it to Rick for music. Well I just finished and have sent it to Rick to add music. Now for the next few weeks I think I'll be stepping down from The Ready Room as I have to focus everything on The Guild BTS.

Famous Last Words

So the next three weekends I'll be doing nothing but editing and try and slip some editing before going to work and when I get home from work. Gonna get this stuff done and looking great.. can't let down my fellow Guildies.

    Wish me luck guys...

Happy Anniversary

Six years ago today I got a response to my personal ad on Yahoo personals. It started off Dear Kelly and so began the courtship of Harry and Kenny. It still amazes me that I could find the person I was meant to be with the rest of my life 6000 miles away. It's been a wonderful six years. We've had our ups (getting married) and our downs (immigration issues) but the most important thing is that we have each other and the love we share will get us through anything.

    Love you Hubby

More Guildie Goodiness

Okay I got an email today informing me that they don't need all the BTS stuff by the first of April, YAY!!!! they only need one piece from me and that shouldn't be a problem.. Still don't know when the rest will be due but at least it's not due at the beginning of April.

Stressed Out Guildie

Today I got an email and call informing me that the Behind the Scenes specials that I am suppose to cut in the next three months are now due in the next three weeks. Talk about panicking, Luckily I have about 2/3 of the tapes digitized but I haven't had a single moment to look over the footage or start to organize it. I figured I had months to go and could take my time.. well that's not the case. So now the next three weekends I'll be working on The Guild BTS and I won't be able to get everything that I wanted done in time... which is a bummer but stuff I can't finish for the DVD I hope they can put it up on their website or you tube channel.

    Must breath.. in... out... in....

Knights of the Guild Episode Two

After a long day at work, Harry and I tried to catch up on some TV as our recorder is beginning to fill up. We watched a few hours then both went to our computers to work, Harry is building his new website and I began editing KOTG podcast #2 which is due this Sunday. I edited from 10pm to 1:30am but manage to get a fairly tight rough cut done. Now I have to add sfx, music and do one final pass and it will be ready for upload on Sunday March 15th.

Grandma in Hospital

Today I got a call from my Mom informing me that my grandmother fell and broke her hip. They planned to do surgery but found out she had in infection running through her body and didn't want to take any chances until they get the infection under control. I tried calling my mom back at lunch time but she couldn't talk as she was in the hospital and was not suppose to use a cell phone. Everything seemed okay but I didn't get the details. I'll have to call her tomorrow and see how everything is going.

Spreading myself to Thin

Again today I was on set shooting BTS of Legend of Neil. This day wasn't as long, got to the stage around 9am and left around 6pm. Another fun day and also my last day of shooting, though they will continue to shoot I was only available to shoot on weekends. :( but it was fun and I have buddy Jenni shooting for me in my absence.

But I have to admit I'm spreading myself a bit too thin, between work, 2 podcasts (The Ready Room and Knights of the Guild), Editing 2 BTS webseries (The Guild and Legend of Neil), building my new website, and playing a Starfleet Captain for a RPG that I help fun, leaves little time for anything else. What free time I have I spend with my hubby, family and if I'm lucky a few friends.

I know this won't be forever.. but man this is tough. All I can do it take it one day at a time.

Legend of Neil BTS Shoot

Today I shot more BTS for the Comedy Central/Webseries The Legend of Neil. Had to be up at 5am so I could leave my house by 5:30am and be on stage at 6am, well the location wasn't the easiest thing to find as google maps forgot to mention a few streets to turn on. But with a 15 minute detour I was able to locate the stage and begin my filming. I can't really say much about the characters or story, got some really good BTS and I'm looking forward to cutting some cool BTS together. Only downside was it was a long day 6am to 8pm. And I get to do it all again tomorrow.

Work Craziness Continues

Man I was so happy the weekend was coming, the past week of work was horrible. Not that I get to rest this weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday I am shooting BTS for Legend of Neil. Though it will be fun I wish I had some time off after this tough week.. oh well life moves on.

KOTG on Itunes

It was such a horrible day at work but right before I left I was checking out itunes and looked at there top 100 TV and Movie Audio podcasts and guess what I found.. Knights of the Guild was number 88… How cool was that.. talk about lifting my spirits.. it's just what I needed.

What a Day!!!!

Wow.. I haven't had this bad of a day in a long while. First we tell us that we can't digitize tapes that run over the 24 hour mark.. this is of course after we have already digitized almost 5000 tapes. I wish they would have told me when I started this job months ago. It took me and my AE four hours to figure out how to find out which tapes were wrong. Luckily it was only 70 tapes out of the 5000 that will need to be re-done, but that is another 70 hours of digitizing that could have been prevented if they would have mentioned this rule when I first started.

This whole tape issue didn't help with the fact that we are up against the wall to get a four hundred(hours) of tapes digitized in a few weeks. Between decks breaking down, the crappy job the camera guys did on shooting the stuff (timecode breaks ever few seconds that cause the machine to kick the tape out) it takes two hours to digitize an hour tape.

Besides that we have old Avid system that breakdown at least once a day so I have editors and producers complaining everyday about something.

It was just a frustrating day....

Recording KOTG #2

Tonight Jenni and I got together to record episode 2 of Knights of the Guild podcast. Both of us are super busy and this seemed like it would be the only time we could do it and since it need to be posted by the 15th we went ahead and recorded.

I had to scramble and find a fan to interview and luckily I got my buddy Bel-Rand from The Guild chat forums. He's from Sweden and the time we picked to do the recording/interview was 9pm our time but 5am his time. But he really wanted to do it so he stayed up all night. Thanks Bel-Rand.

The interview was fantastic and the rest of the podcast just flew by. This is only the third time Jenni and I have recorded but it's like we have been doing this forever. I did a rough cut of the podcast after we recorded it and it sounded great. I can't wait to add the bumpers and interviews and polish it off. It will be posted on March 15th.

Forgot to Vote

I was so busy today getting stuff done around the house, hanging out with Harry and getting computer stuff done I totally forgot about voting. I was listening to the news at 10pm and it hit me.. I turned to Harry and said.. "Oh crap I totally forgot to vote today". Oh well.. whatcha going do.

Taking a Day Off

Since I put in a 16 hour day yesterday I decided not to go into work today (it's good to be the boss). Instead I stayed home and hung out with Harry, worked on my new website, edited a podcast and watched some TV. Of course I got four or five calls from work but they were things I could over the phone. So all in all it was a very nice day.. wish I had more of those. Back to the grind tomorrow..

Monday, March 2, 2009

Long Work Day

Today I came into work around 9am and left work around 1am, It was a super long 16 hour day of digitizing. One of our boats (I'm working on Deadliest Catch) wasn't able to send in tapes like the others and all of a sudden then sent up 200+ tapes that had to be digitized in three days. So I stayed for a double shift to get as much of it in the system as I could. I'm glad I stayed because I got a lot done and we are a bit closer to getting all those tapes into our system.

BTS for Legend of Neil

Today was the first shoot day on season two of Legend of Neil. Sandeep (who plays Zaboo on The Guild) is producing this comedy for comedy central. Legend of Neil is of course a spoof on Legend of Zelda, a very popular video game. You can check out season one and find out more info here about Legend of Neil http://www.effinfunny.com/legend-of-neil

Since I did the BTS stuff for The Guild Sandeep had asked if I would do the same for LON season 2. And of course I said okay. Well come to find out they are shooting two weeks straight and of course I have a daily job. So I will only be shooting stuff on weekends for the next two weekends. I did pass on my camera to Jenni and hope she or another PA can get some good footage for me to use in my BTS stuff.

Today was our first day and we were filming in Angeles National Forest. It's a beautiful location but man there was alot of climbing up and down hills. I'm an old man and not use to all that walking. By the end of the day my feet were dying. But it was a fun shoot, lots of cool stuff happened. I took about 3 1/2 hours of video and about 300 pictures. I'm bummed that I won't be with them this coming week and look forward to joining them again next Saturday.

Front Page

While at lunch with my buddy Christopher last week we started talking about websites and stuff. He knows I've been working on mine new one for quite a while. Back in Oct. 08 I purchased the domain www.geekyfanboy.com and wanted to transfer my current personal website from yahoo geocities. Though I'm internet savvy I'm not really good at HTML and decided I would try my hand at Dreamweaver. Well it's been months and I have built a few pages but not like they are suppose to be build. Instead I created them in photoshop and then just import the entire thing as one image. Anyways I was conveying my frustration to Christopher and he mentioned Front Page which is a microsoft program. He said it was fairly easy to use, kind of like page builder from yahoo geocities.

So Today I finally "acquired" a copy and gave it a shot. Well I have to say that Front Page is a website building for dummies and is perfect for me. It's pretty much set up like most of the MS programs. I only had an hour or so to play with it but I already built most of my main page, with Dreamweaver it had taken me weeks. So I'm off to a good start. So it will still take me a while to get everything transferred but at least I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks Christopher for the heads up.

Oscars

Today I watched the Oscars with host Hugh Jackman. First of all Hugh Jackman was great he was funny and charming and is such a great singer and dancer. They also did several different ways to present the awards that I really liked. For the four actors awards they brought out five previous winners to say something nice about each nominated actor. I really liked this. They also handed out awards like doing a movie. Pre-Production, Production and Post-Production. All in all it was a fun show.

Lost Marathon

Today Harry and I finally sat down and forced ourselves to watch Lost. We haven't watched a single episode since it came back this year. We had six hours of unwatched Lost to catch up on. We kept putting it off because Lost is one of those shows that you really need to pay attention to and most of the time when we watch TV it's at the end of the day and were tired but I have been trying to avoid spoilers the past month and knew I wouldn't be able to stay spoiler free for long plus I was really missing it. So we sat down early today and started with the two hour premiere then took an hour break, got some stuff done and watch another few hours, break, and finale watched the last two hours. OMG it was so great having six hours to watch because we didn't have to wait each week for a new one, but when we got to our last episode we were on the edge of our seat and once again are will have to wait a week for another new Lost.

It's Tax Time

Tonight I have an appointment to met my Tax guy Mike to do my 2008 taxes. I found Mike seven or eight years ago through my friend Renee. Mike is one of the nicest and funniest guys. He doesn't act like your typical stuffy accountant. He is super popular (because he is good) and every year I have to book an appointment with him earlier and earlier (now booking at the beginning of November). What is great about Mike is he explains everything in simple terms. I understand everything he is saying. Today I found out he is a geek also, he loves Star Trek, Stargate and many more sci fi TV shows. So besides him doing my taxes, we got to have a really good chat about Trek.

BTW In 2008 I made the most I have every made which worried him a little bit as it pushed me into a different tax bracket.. but in the end I'm getting back a bit from Federal taxes and a little back from State (or an IOU). As long as I don't have to pay and I get enough back to cover his fees I'm happy. So it was another good Tax season for me.

Podcasts, Podcasts and More Podcasts

Today I recorded my Ready Room podcast with my friends Jen and Rick. It had been several weeks since we did a recording and it was a lot of fun getting back together, well at least via the internet. Jen lives in the Texas and Rick in Washington. Now I have to edit the podcast together for a Wednesday release.

Also today I edited our Knights of the Guild Microcast #1 Quest for the Finale. I hope to release that early this week.

Inpromt to Podcast

Tonight Jenni came over to my place around 10pm to record a special microcast podcast for our Knights of the Guild podcast. It was a lot of fun.

Negative Comments

Well I knew it was bound to happen as you can't please everyone but it still doesn't take away the sting of reading our first negative comment about Knights of the Guild #1 podcast. I was checking out twitter and noticed this person has posted this. "I love The Guild, but I'm not gonna lie. I found Knights of the Guild episode 1 to be slightly boring." I know it's not a horrible review but it still stings. But like my friend Sean said.. now you got your first negative comment over with the rest will be easier. And I'm sure they will but.. it was just tough after reading all the great things folks have said about KOTG #1 to hear that one person thought it was boring. Oh well everyone has their opinions.

Lunch with Christopher

Today I got to have lunch with my buddy Christopher. He was my best man at my wedding and I haven't seen him since my birthday in September. He's a super busy guy at Disney and we never seem to be off at the same time. Well today we finally decided that we would do lunch and met at Bob's Big Boy in Burbank. It was great catching up on each other's lives.. at least as much as you can in an hour. We say the same thing everytime we seperate.. let's not wait months to do this again and of course it's always months before we see each other again. I guess it's just the way it is at the moment, but when we do get together it's like no time has passed at all and that's one thing I love about Christopher, even though we don't see each other as much as we both would like we've still the best of friends.

The Guild Cast Live Web Chat

Today the finale of the Guild season two is up on MSN Video http://tinyurl.com/bblnes
Look for the guy in the blue and white checkered shirt who is videotaping the fights.. that's me.

Also the Behind the Scenes Video that I cut a few months back was finally put up on MSN Video you can see it here. http://tinyurl.com/b2lwy9

And tonight the Cast and Director of The Guild did a live web chat on Ustream. Felicia asked if I would be a moderator. It was crazy, hundreds of people all chatting at once. Of course we had our trolls who where there just to make trouble. I had to ban about 15 people but it was a lot of fun. The picture above is a screen grab.

Knights of the Guild Podcast

Our podcast Knights of the Guild http://knightsoftheguild.podbean.com has been out for two days, I think you can say it has been an success. We've had 780 listeners for the promo and 1295 listeners for Episode 1 for a total of 2075 listeners in the past two days. Our site has been up for about two weeks and we have had 3307 visitors and it's still growing every hour.

It's great having a built in fan base and from the reaction of our first podcast they seem to be liking what we are doing.

Now it's time to plan out podcast #2

Guild Cast Interviews

Today I was finally able to do the cast interviews of The Guild for the Second season DVD specials that I plan on doing. These were suppose to be done in January but everyone was busy and we weren't able to get to them until today.

Today I got to interview Sandeep (Zaboo), Robin (Clara), Jeff (Vork), Vince (Bladezz), Tara (Dena), Amy (Tink), Fernando (Wade), Felicia (Codex) and Michele (Riley). It was a long eight hour day but it's always fun hanging out at Felicia's house (where we did the interviews). Now with those done I can get started on editing the DVD specials.
