While podcasting Jenni surprised me with a picture that the very talented Matthew Brackney drew.. I totally loved it...And if you don't understand it you must not listen to my podcast Knights of the Guild

Knights of the Guild : The story of Kenny and Jenni

My friend Chris wrote this very cool article about Jenni and I and our podcast.. I love it.

    by Chris
    Feyrer
    Check out his website HERE

Kenny Mittleider always wanted to be popular. What he didn’t know was that he would be some day, hosting the Internet podcast Knights of the Guild, the official podcast of the web series The Guild.

Mittleider, in his late thirties, is a post production supervisor in southern California and a huge self-proclaimed geek, with a major Star Wars collection and a sweet, huggable teddy-bear personality.

Enter Jenni Powell, former Lonelygirl15 crew member and transplant to the crazy world that is Los Angeles, funny, quirky, irreverent, and chasing the dream of web series industry success.

Both offered their talents to Felicia Day’s web series The Guild crew back in the first run of the off-the-wall comedy about a group of addicted gamers forced to interact offline. Back then, all was funded by PayPal and run by volunteers, with Jenni as Production assistant and Kenny working behind the scenes on featurettes and in post production. Already fans, they became even more hooked while working on the show, with the access to the awesome cast, crew, and fan base that makes up the Guild community.

Thusly, a fan podcast was born.

Powell found herself Mittleider’s partner in crime, and together “Kenny and Jenni” have built quite a name for themselves not only for their excellent coverage of The Guild but for their great repoire and hilarious online personas.

From the first edition, it was clear that this was not your every day fan podcast. With professional quality audio production, show-to-show continuity, and clever lead-ins to each section of their show, Knights of the Guild launched a year ago and became a staple for fans looking for the latest and greatest in goings-on with the Los Angeles-based web series.

Kenny and Jenni make it look easy. What fans don’t see are the hours and hours of preproduction, organizing schedules with cast members for interviews, soliciting and handling fan feedback, dealing with crazy technical difficulties, and spreading the word near and far that goes on behind the scenes.

To both of them I wanted to say bravo and congrats for a year of hilarity, unicorns, one-liners, and insightful cast, fan and crew interviews.

If you are a fan of online gaming, comedy, or social outcasts, and you still haven’t seen The Guild, please quit living under your rock and go to http://www.watchtheguild.com and then check out Kenny and Jenni’s awesome Knights of the Guild podcast at: http://knightsoftheguild.com .

Hours of laughter later, you’ll understand why the podcast has thousands of downloads and the web series is in the top ten comedies on ITunes.

Skywalker Ranch

This morning one of our guests (Ray) who stayed the night invited me to Skywalker Ranch. He works there at least until April. My jaw dropped when he invited me. I mean I was coming off of a high from the night before and the great party/podcast but this threw me into the stratosphere. I am on cloud nine.. time to plan a road trip.

1 Year Anniversary Podcast: A Look Back

WOW!!!! that pretty much sums up last nights 1 year anniversary party/podcast. First of all there was a 1 hour warm up act with Jared Hoy and Andrew Seely who were on mic because Jenni and I were running around greeting our guests and such. Once we started the podcast it continued for over four hours of guildie goodness. So much great stuff that I think I'm going to break it up into 3 or 4 podcasts. After 11:30 when the party started to break up it turned into the "After-Hours" Karaoke night. Headed up by my best bud Will along with Jay, Meagan, Ray and Jenni they were singing up a storm until 1am.

It was truly and amazing night of friends, podcasting and good times. I would like to thank all our guests for making the trek out of my house (I live in the middle of nowhere). Felicia, Kim, Michele, Brian, Fernie, Andrew, Will, Mel, Jay, Greg, Jared, Sean, Megan and Ray.

It was an awesome night and I wish we did that for every podcast.

Cleaning and KOTG Anniversary

Today I was having friends over to celebrate my 1 year KOTG (Knights of the Guild) Podcast Anniversary. The day started out with Harry and I cleaning the entire house… and there was a lot of cleaning to do. Having remodeling done for the past 2 days wasn’t much help either. To make a long and exhausting story short… we got done just in time.

Around 7 pm people started to arrive. All in all about 20 people showed up. Everyone loved our place and complimented Harry and I on our choice of the wall colors and the paint job. So I guess having spent 40+ days painting has been worth while. Daisy and Harry spent most of the time in front of the fire place. Harry attended the fire to keep it going and watched Daisy so she wasn't in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. That way she wouldn’t be freaking out. She actually did alot better than I expected. For most of the time she was fairly relaxed and was chilling out next to Harry. But of course she never left his side.

I spent most of the time in the office recording the podcast. We had some great guests lined up Felicia Day, Kim Evey, Greg Aronowitz, Sean Becker, Michele Boyd, Fernando Chien and many more. Around 1.30 am we called in the night.

Remodeling Continues Day 2

So I got home from the dinner and a play and then had to check out what our contractor had done. He said he had finished everything so I decided to check it out. Fireplace looked great, couldn't see the stain and the tile looked nice. He also sealed up around the Direct TV satellite on the roof. Seems those guys didn't seal the screw holes and that allowed water to leak into our master bedroom damage the wall. So he sealed those holes. He also sealed around another piece of the roof where he thinks the water came into our living room.. only way will know he got it is when it rains again. So that stuff was good. He re-textured the ceiling in the living room and though the white paint is slightly off it's not a bad job and is okay. The new doorway into the laundry room was wonderful.. looks just like the doorway in front of it. But the paint job in the master bathroom is horrible, at least in my opinion. The lines are not good, there are places where you can see the color that was on the wall. They painted around fixtures instead of removing them and painting under them. I was not happy about the master bathroom. Next was our master bedroom where the crack was. They re-textured the wall but didn't bother to cover anything so there was a layer of white dust from the sanding all over the floor and pillows. And to top it off they used semi-gloss paint instead of the red paint. And damaged the paint on the other wall.. so now I have to re-paint that corner to make it match everything else. Not to the laundry room.. again the painting was half ass. Looks like the did one coat and there is white all over the place. They did pull out the washer and dryer and kind of painted behind them but didn't bother to hook them back up. So will have to re-paint that room as well. As I said the doorway looked great but there was a inch think of white dust all over the pantry area. Also texture splattered onto other walls which will need to be painted again. Our contractor is great when it come to construction but lacks on the painting skills.. at least to my standards which can be high but please even leaving things half done is not good. So now it looks like because Harry and I were lazy and didn't want to paint will have to do a lot of touch up painting.

Proof

Today after work I went out to dinner with some of my Guildie friends and then to watch the play Proof which Teal Sherer who played Venom in season 3 of the Guild, produced and starred in. Dinner was fun as we went to a pizza place just down the street from the theater in North Hollywood. After dinner we walked over to the theater and enjoyed the play. I didn't know much about Proof. It's a story about a young girl who not only got her mathematics genius from her father but also may have inherited his mental sickness. The premise alone made it sound like a very dramatic play but it was very funny and sweet at times. Teal was remarkable and really shined in this play. Once it was over we hung out at the theater for a bit and chatted with Teal. It was a very fun night.

Remodeling Continues

Just when I thought we was done... since Harry and I couldn't motivate ourselves to paint the laundry and master bathroom we decided that we would hire our "handy"man Danny to do the painting for us and since he was here we would have him do a few other odds and ends around the house.

So our list grew and grew. Remove Metal Door in Laundry Room, Remove Door frame in Laundry Room and Replace, Paint Laundry Room, Paint Master Bathroom, Caulk Bathtub, Replace both Screen doors (Living Room & Master Bedroom), Fix Toilet in Guest bathroom (Finish from previous job), Roof Leak, Take down Fan and seal hole (above what use to be eat in kitchen), Patch Carpet in Master Bedroom (from where you took down the closets)

When he arrived this morning we altered a few things that we had requested.. instead of framing out the laundry room door once we remove the steel mesh door he suggested that we just turn it into a walkway with rounded curves like the walkway right in front of it. I loved the idea and approved it. The next change was the old fan that we wanted him to take down and seal up.. I realized the day before that we couldn't seal it up because we needed a light in that area so Harry and I went to Lowes and bought a really cool light that would match the living lights. Of course this morning I realized that it wouldn't work since the roof is slanted and the light hung and would stick out at a weird angle.. so before work this morning I had to run back to Lowes and exchange the light for something that would be flesh with the ceiling and less noticeable. The other add on was the fireplace. During the last rain storm a dark spot appeared on some of the tiles and we couldn't get it off.. so Danny suggested that we "seal" the tiles and it would make them all look the same. So we added that to his "to do" list.

So a little late I finally got into work. When I got home they had done about 1/2 of what needed to be done and planned to finish up tomorrow. The finally finished mounting the toilet in the guest bathroom which was part of their last job. They hung both screen doors and started painting the master bathroom. They started work on the new doorway in the laundry room and replaced the missing carpet in the master bathroom and they removed the fan/light in the pantry area and replace it with the new light I bought this morning. The toilet, screen doors and new light were fantastic.. I wasn't happy with the replaced carpet. Before there were two little sections of carpet that needed to be replace.. instead they decided to cut the entire corner off of the carpet and replace leaving this very long and noticeable line. Of course they realized this wasn't such a great idea and just replaced the two missing pieces on the other side but the damage was done. I wish they would have asked before going that route. Before with he night stand you wouldn't have noticed the two small pieces being replaced but with taking the whole corner out it's noticeable and I was not happy.

Tomorrow they have to fix the leak on the roof, patch the ceiling where the water came down, seal the tile on the fireplace, finish the doorway to the laundry room, paint the laundry room and finishing painting the master bathroom... let's hope he can get this all done by tomorrow.

Apple's New iPad

Today Apple unveiled it’s newest gadget: The iPad. I watched the live blogs as they were released and got more and more excited with every new reveal. I knew I wanted one but I wasn't sure if Harry did or not.. but after watching the video Harry was hooked.. So looks like we both will be getting an iPad. For those of you who haven't a clue what I’m talking about, let me give a short explanation:

    • The iPad is way more than only an eReader
    • You can page through websites
    • Flick through photos
    • Watch videos
    • Listen to your Music Library
    • 9.7 inch Multi-Touch Screen
    • Run all existing Apple Apps

Visiting Family

Today we went to visit my Dad, Brother, Sister-in-law and Nephew. It's been a few weeks and it was nice to visit. I had planned to take Dad to see Avatar but Harry really wasn't up for it so we took him out to our favorite Chinese place Hong Kong Restaurant and then back to the house and visited with my bro, sis and nephew. It was a short visit but fun.

Also while there Danny our contractor was doing stuff for Mike and it hit me.. why not have him come do the painting in our master bathroom and laundry room as Harry and I are never going to do it. So we plan on talking to him in the next few days to make some plans.

Shopping

Today Harry and I went shopping.. we first went to Home Depot to buy a taller ladder then we already had because of leaks on the roof and our 8 foot ladder being to small to reach it. Luckily we had some gift certificates cause ladders are expensive. We picked up a few other thinks like bush trimmer and clippers.. We also looked at prices of Generators as we both think it's a good idea to have one for a "worse case scenario". They ranged from $600 to $1200, we didn't buy one tonight but plan to get one soon.

After that we headed to Target to pick up some more accessories for the house. We got a bunch of little things but what was cool is we found a picture that would work for our guest bathroom as well as a shower curtain. I have to say our guest bathroom looks pretty nice. It's actually the first room that is 100% complete. We also picked up some more candles, can never have to many candles and we planned to pick up a coffee table but the ones they had at that Target were damages so I plan to pick one up by the Target at my work.

To Paint or not to Paint...

Well today we made another attempt to continue to paint the Master Bathroom. I started to tape of the corners in the bathroom. After that was done we tried to motivate ourselves to start with the painting itself. Well, we never managed to motivate ourselves. Both, Harry and I, are just really tired of painting. Guess the master bathroom will just have to wait a bit longer...

Snow

Today while I was at work it started to snow up at our place and not just a few flurries like before.. but really snow. I started to worry that I wouldn't be able to get home because of the snow so I left work early. It was just starting to get dark by the time I got home but there was still snow on the ground. Not as much as there was as it was already starting to melt. Harry did take some cool pictures and video so I did get to enjoy it through that..

The Perks of Podcasting

I love doing the Knights of the Guild podcast, it's a lot of work but well worth it from the positive vibes we get from our wonderful listeners. But I have to say it's nice getting some perks here and there. First we got some Geeky Cookies and now we got some Geeky Soap. They contacted me via twitter and asked if we would like to try out some of their soap.. of course I said yes and they sent me four bars of "Sexterity" soap. I plan on giving a bar to Jenni of course but also Felicia Day and Kim Evey. Will be talking about it on our next podcast but if you want to see some of there cool items you can check out their website. http://Geekysoap.com

So it begins.... Stormwatch 2010

Wow.. what day. Work was fine.. I'm talking about the weather. Today the first of four storms his and man did it hit. Because of my Jeep top not closing and having my back window opened Harry was kind enough to loan me he Dodge truck. On the way to work this morning while on the 14 the rain was coming down so hard and the wind was blowing 40 to 50 mph topped off with thick fog I couldn't see a foot in front of me. I took my time and managed to get to work without incident. While I work I kept getting updates from Harry from home. The rain was crazy but what was worse for us was the winds. They did manage to rip off two of our roof shingles but it doesn't look like it caused to much damage. The storm arrived a few hours earlier then expected so when I was going home in the evening there was nothing but wind.

Weather all over SoCal was bad, there were tornado's in the beach cities, power outages all over the place, mud slides in the burn areas and flooding. This was one of the worse days of weather that I can remember in a long time.. and this is the first of four and was suppose to be the weakest.. this is going to be a long week.

Shopping

Today Harry and I were finally able to get some shopping done. I've been wanting to go out the past few weekends but we've been just so busy. But today we hit Home Depot, ATT store and Ross. At Home Depot we picked up some shears for bushes and a rack. Now that the inside of the house is mostly done we have started to work on the outside and we are missing important pieces of equipment. So we picked up a few things.

Next we went to the ATT store so Harry could get his new phone. His plan was up and since I had gotten my new phone he has wanted to get his new phone. Of course he had to one up me and get a blackberry bold, which requires a $30 extra a month data plan, which I wasn't happy about but it made Harry happy so it made me happy.

After that we were going to do Ross then Target and look for house accessories. Well at Ross we actually found a nice painting for our guest bathroom, some odds and ends but the bit purchase was a bench for our master bedroom. We couldn't pass it up as it was the exactly color of our bed frame. Since we got that we could leave it in the back of the truck so we skipped Target and headed home. On our way home it started to rain but luckily the bench survived and didn't seem to have any water damage.

Little by little we are making this house a home.

Another Party

Tonight Harry and I went out to a birthday dinner for our friend Tom, yeah it's the same Tom that surprise party we went to last weekend. This was the dinner that Tom has planned, since he was unaware of his surprise party. So we celebrated Tom's birthday twice in a week. We went to a Italian place called Zach's down in Studio City. It was a fun time, lots of friends and good food.. couldn't ask for me.

Yard Work

Today I finally got some free time to work on our 2 1/2 acres of land. We have a weeks worth of rain coming and I really wanted to a start on pulling weeds. I spent from 9:30am to 1:30pm pulling weeds on a small portion of our land. Harry joined me around 12:30pm and we finished off the east side of our property. We started to dig out a drain that has been blocked since we moved in but after the long day of pulling weeds and not eating I was done for the day. I did wear gloves but unfortunately I had short sleeves and scratch the heck out of my arms.. I think I'm also allergic to the "tumble" weeds as I have red hives all over my arms and they were itching like crazy. All in all is was a good day of yard work. Now we only have another 2 acres to work on.

    Owning lands is hard work...

More Podcast Editing

Seems like that's all I do nowadays, prepare, record, edited and post my Knights of the Guild podcast. It's a lot of work but it's also very enjoyable. I guess you can call it my hobby, at least one of many hobbies that I enjoy, but this one seems to be in the for front. Tonight I finished editing Episode 12 part 1 as it needs to be posted tomorrow morning.

I now have to edit Episode 12 part 2 which is uploaded on February 1st, prepare for Episode 13 which is our big party 1 year anniversary podcast set to record on January 30th at 7pm. Not only are we doing it live on Ustream we plan to have several special guest hosts, and I have to say that I'm surprised that the list keeps growing. Come Saturday the 30th it's going to be a huge podcast party.. so their is lots of planning that I have to do now. Then I'll have to figure out how to edited that down to 2 maybe 3 parts.. depending on material.

More Podcast Editing

Nothing much happened at work today. So I had a little more energy to work on an episode of Knights of the Guild. I'm almost done with Episode 12 part 1, just need to add the SFX and then start the conversion process. Need to upload in two days...

Editing a Podcast

Even though I'm not feeling so hot I need to get started on editing my Knights of the Guild podcast Episode 12 part 1. It needs to be released in a few days. I did manage to edit some stuff at work today so that will help. Will see how far I can get before my body gives out.

Should Have Stayed Home

Still not feeling well but managing.. well until my supervising producer came in and started to yell at me. I won't go into details needless to say I'm not one who yells or take being yelled at. I was fuming and should have released but that goes against everything I am.. I know if I keep bottling it up eventually I will explode but until then... :)

Being Sick

I've been really lucky and haven't gotten really sick the past few months.. but today I have to say is the worse I have felt in a while. Currently it feels like someone is poking my eyeballs from the inside of my head. I took some medicine and hope it will allow me to get through work. Guess it could be worse.

Prop 8 Trial

The Prop 8 Trial starts today. It's to determine if Prop 8 violates our (California Gay Couples) constitutional rights to marry. The Supreme Court in all it's wisdom has banned cameras in the court room but luckily with today social media networks and blogging there are plenty of people in the court house watching the trial and giving us the play by play online. I spent the day reading what's been happening. So far it's been fairly positive stuff.. it's great that the general public will be able to hear from gay couple in loving committed relationships. Seems the defence (anti gay marriage people) whole stance is the children are the ones that will be hurt if gay couples marry. I don't know where they came up with that but they seems to be their key arguments so far. It's only day one and we have a long way to go.. but I'll continue the updates.

New Family Member

Today we found out that Harry's sister Gerda and her husband Bernd had their first baby.. a little boy. Gerda already has another boy (Leonhard) from another relationship. This is Bernd' first. He's a healthy 21.2 inches long and 8.4 pounds. Gerda gave birth at home with a midwife. Mother and baby are doing fine. Still no name...

Christmas is Over

Since we got a late start on Christmas last year I figured I'd leave everything up a bit longer then I usual do but as my weekends continue to be super busy or I continue to be super lazy I wasn't able to take everything down last weekend as planned. So today I got up early and managed to get everything down and packed away, with exception of our Christmas tree. I was going to pull is apart and put it back in the box but since we have the room I figured we'd just keep up on and together for next year. Will see if it says that way but once Harry got up he helped me carry it to the garage.

It's kind of sad looking now since we still don't have accessories or pictures up in the living room and the Christmas stuff looked so nice. But now I can continue my decorating of the living room.. so that's something to look forward too.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

"The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" is a fantastical morality tale, set in the present-day. It tells the story of Dr. Parnassus and his extraordinary 'Imaginarium', a traveling show where members of the audience get an more »irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom. Blessed with the extraordinary gift of guiding the imaginations of others, Doctor Parnassus is cursed with a dark secret. An inveterate gambler, thousands of years ago he made a bet with the devil, Mr. Nick, in which he won immortality. Centuries later, on meeting his one true love, Dr. Parnassus made another deal with the devil, trading his immortality for youth, on condition that when his daughter reached her 16th birthday, she would become the property of Mr Nick. Valentina is now rapidly approaching this 'coming of age' milestone and Dr. Parnassus is desperate to protect her from her impending fate. Mr. Nick arrives to collect but, always keen to make a bet, renegotiates the wager. Now the winner of Valentina will be determined by whoever seduces the first five souls. Enlisting a series of wild, comical and compelling characters in his journey, Dr. Parnassus promises his daughter's hand in marriage to the man that helps him win.

    *******

From the opening scene I thought it might be a bit to far out there but the story was actually very easy to follow and made sense. The visuals were stunning and the acting was good. It's your typical Gilliam movie, off the wall, not main stream. If you like Brazil or Time Bandits or The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Then you'll probably like this film. To me it was at bit bizarre at times, but I did enjoyed it, so did my Dad who I saw it with. Would I see it again?? Maybe once but I don't think I'll be adding it to my DVD library.

AVATAR

I finally got to see this tonight.. I went after work. I did see it in DPL 3D.

I have one word for this movie.. EPIC!!! okay well I have more words. I loved this movie. It was beautiful, I could have sat there for hours watching them explore Pandora. The acting was great, Zoe who played Neytiri was awesome. I loved the story and the details about the Na'vi people. We really got to know these people. I love how they explained the connection of the planets, people, animals and the world. And did I mention that every shot of Pandora was BEAUTIFUL. You couldn't tell that the majority of this was CGI. The Na'vi looked so real and the world they lived in was fantastic. I did see this in 3D and wow what an experience. But I do think they movie would be just as beautiful and great in 2D. This wasn't your typical 3D, just so they can poke items into your face. This 3D actually made you feel like you were standing with them in their world. There were times when bugs, dust or ash was floating inches from your nose and want to swat it away. Several times when they would be looking down from a high distance my stomach would go queasy, it was so real.

I know there are people who hated the story or call it racist and I so don't understand that. But of course human beings can be cruel and intolerant at times, proof in this movie.

I can't wait to see this again and next time I want to see it in IMAX 3D. Can't wait to get back to Pandora.

Property Taxes

Today I made my first property tax payment on our house. Our bank will be making the regular property tax payments but this was a special supplemental payment because we are the new owners of this house. I opted to split the payment into two payments. But this should be the only supplemental payments we have to make. Oh the joys of home ownership.

PGA Awards

Today I voted for my favorites in The Producers Guild of America Awards. It's fun to be part of this guild. Not only do I get DVD screeners of current movies but I get to be part of a very important award show.

New Who Preview

Here's the new trailer of the new Doctor Who, with Matt Smith taking over as the Doctor.. what do you think?? I'm excited... Can't wait!!!

Wait... What!!!

Today as soon as I walk into work Lee (building manager) informs me that they will be removing windows from the south side of the building... tomorrow. Now they have been doing construction on this place for the past few years but most of it has been in the back building and really didn't effect us up front.. well now they are starting to work on our section. They did the windows on the north wall but that didn't really effect us as we don't have anything of our offices on that side.. but the south walls we have our loggers and machine room there. I was told that they would give us a few weeks notice on when they wanted to do this. Of course over the two weeks holiday would have been best since there weren't many people here but no.. that did not work for the construction company. So I walk in and get this news first thing. First I have to go talk to my loggers and inform them that a side of their wall is going to be removed.. it's going to be loud and smell of burnt metal... oh and this is going to happen tomorrow early morning. I then had to deal with our machine room with all the $$$ machine that can't get dust in them. We also had to disconnect some of them and move with 3 feet away from the wall.

Sometimes I don't think this company really communicate with each other.. this is going to be a long day.

Clean Shaven

What do you think?? I haven't been clean shaven in awhile. Figure it's a new year, so I'll give this a try and see how long I can keep it up..

Doctor Who: The End of Time

Today Harry and I watched the final Doctor Who with David Tennant as the Doctor. We watched Part 1 of this the day after Xmas and really enjoyed it.. so I expected part 2 to be good and it didn't disappoint. I really enjoyed this episode, I liked how we got to see all the companions (Jack, Martha, Donna, Mickey, Rose...) it was like a final goodbye to these guys as we more then likely won't ever see them again. Loved The Doctor and Wilf interaction, Wilf would have made a great long time companion. It was interesting to find out that the Time Lords aren't a good people, totally didn't expect that. I was never fond of the Master and he was such a huge part of this two part finale but it didn't bother me. Who often makes me cry and this was no different.
I think it was a great ending to a wonderful run, but I'm not sad to see him go... I'm ready for a new doctor... I loved Christopher Eccleston and wasn't fond of David Tennant but grew to love him.. I expect it will be the same with Matt Smith. Can't wait for Spring and new WHO.

Vasquez Rocks

Today Harry, Daisy and I went to Vasquez Rocks, which is only a few miles from our house. This please is used in alot of movies because of it's unique rock shapes. This place was packed, had no idea it would be so popular. We hiked for almost 3 1/2 hours. Since we had the dog we couldn't go in the rally steep rocks but we did manage to climb some pretty cool rocks. Daisy is an awesome climber.. I think I had to help her down a rock only one time. It was a fun trip and we're so excited that it's so close to where we live. We plan to visit often.. it's such a good workout and a beautiful place.
