The Truth is Out There

If you know that tag line then you'll know this series. Today we received from Amazon all nine seasons of The X-Files. I was a huge fan of this series back in the 90's and watch every episode. When I saw that Amazon was selling the seasons for only $12.49 each I couldn't pass it up. I've always wanted the series but in the past they have been over $100 per season. So when I saw the deal I called up Harry and asked if he would be interested in having he entire series and he agreed that we should get them. Now will have to have an X-Files marathon.

Garage

Today I finally did what I have been wanting for do for the past month.. no it wasn't finish painting the master bathroom it was cleaning up the garage (my future Toy Room). I spent about four or five hours out there moving things around. I also pulled out our Xmas stuff so I can started hanging lights and decorating the house. Still not sure how we are going to remodel the garage with all the stuff in it.. but I'm sure will figure out something.

More DVD Screeners

This week I have gotten more DVD screeners.. this is one of the huge perks of being a member of the Producer's Guild of America. This time around I got a few that I actually want to see.. like Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince which I saw twice in the theater and comes out on DVD in a few weeks but I really loved that movie. I also got Coraline and 9. I have seen 9 and enjoyed it and really wanted to see Coraline. Still have a few more weeks hopefully I'll get some more that I am wanting to see.

Home Stuff

Today while Harry was outside cleaning up the drains we have on our hillside I was putting up the toilet and towel bar up. And of course it never goes as planned. I first stated with the toilet paper bar. I got everything ready and pre-drilled the holes with our new drill, I then started to screw the plate to the side of the cabinet and realized that the screws that came with the bar were so crappy that the drill and all it's power striped them. I then had one screw almost in all the way and the other one two-thirds of the way out. I then found better screws that we had lying around and screwed in the second support piece with no issue. I had to take a pair of pliers and slowly unscrew the one that was two-thirds of the way out. It was a slow process but I manage to get that screw out. I went to the other one and sure enough as my luck would have it.. the tip broke clean off leaving the screw stuck in the cabinet. In frustration I accidentally knocked over the drill and snapped the drill bit in half. I was not a happy camper. I persevered and slowly but surely I unscrewed the broke screw from the cabinet. Once I had that out I used two better screws and had the toilet bar up in no time.

My next adventure was putting up the towel bar. There were already holes form the previous towel bar but again as my luck would have it they were horizontal and of course our new towel bar had vertical holes so I have to first drill holes and then hammer in the drywall screw supports. It wasn't as bad as the toilet bar but it wasn't a cake walk.. in the end both bar are up and look very nice. What I thought would be a half hour job turned into a two hour pain in the butt... I love home ownership.

Computer Fixes

Today I had an interview scheduled for my podcast Knights of the Guild, but currently my computer is making so much noise that it would be impossible to record said interview. So I checked out my computer and realized it was the fan/power supply that was making all the noise. I swore I would not go out shopping today (being Black Friday) but I needed a quiet computer for tonight. We ventured out to Frys and as we expected traffic and people were everywhere. We did manage to find what we needed fairly quietly which is a shock since we normally walk around for hours looking for it. And the line wasn't bad at all.. it actually wasn't a bad shopping day.. since we had luck with Fry's we went to Target to check out high chairs and clothes for Kenobi for Christmas but in the end only picked up some guest bathroom items that we needed.

I got home manage to pull apart my computer and found out that the new power supply that we got didn't actually fit my computer.. meaning the plug was on the opposite side and I had to use metal shears and cut a hole in the back of the metal plating of my computer so I could plug it in. When all was said and done the new power supply worked and my computer was humming quietly. I'm not ready for the interview.

Kenobi

While at my aunts for Thanksgiving but brother, sister in law and nephew were there. Kenobi had been up all day and wasn't in a good mood and was crying alot. For some reason every time my mom would approach him he would get upset.. we all thought it was funny but mom.. no so much. Anyways I got to finally hold him. While I was holding him I started to bounce and he started to laugh.. we caught it on camera. He's so adorable...

Happy Thanksgiving

Today Harry and I went over to my Aunt Joyce's for Thanksgiving dinner. It was just the sisters of my mom's side of the family. Joyce, Carol (my mom) and Linda. It's funny because each sister had two boys. The picture above has the mom standing in front of their boys.

It was a fun time I haven't seen my cousin Dillon or Dwayne for over 10 years. It was nice catching up and it was also fun hanging with my Aunt Joyce. Dinner was fantastic, company was fun, we played games and chatted. All in all a very nice Thanksgiving.

Jury Summons

Barely a few months in the new house and I get a Jury Summons. I have been lucky over the years with these as I have never been called in. Funny thing is the start date is 06/30/2007.. like several years ago. I'm afraid if I call the number I will have to do Jury duty and my job doesn't pay for it so it would be some major financial hardship, which you can no longer claim. Not sure what I'm going to do.

Goodies in the Mail

Today at work wasn't as horrible as it was yesterday.. it was super busy but I was in a much better mood and was handling the stress much better. On a good note when I got home I had gotten a two packages.

First one was my Star Trek Christie's Auction House Catalogues. Christies had a HUGE Star Trek prop and costume auction a few years back and you could guy the catalogue with all the pictures and information about each item. It was going for $90 and I really wanted them but couldn't bring myself to spending that much. But a few days ago I found them on Ebay for only $20 for both + $5 for shipping. I couldn't pass them up.. so I got them. Can't wait to have some free time to look through them.

The second package were my new mic stands. I've always like the swing arm mic stands.. to me they seem more professional. So I spend an hour setting both of them up.. can't wait till Jenni and I do our next podcast.

Still haven't figured out what is wrong with my computer :(

New Computer????

Got up this morning and turned n my PC.. soon as it started there was this very loud noise coming from the processor. I immediately turned it off and restarted it and it seemed fine. About a half hour into surfing the net it started again. I didn't have time to investigate. I just turned it off and figured I would have to look into it more when I got home.

Not sure what the deal is yet but it's over five years old and it might be time to replace it. Now the question is do I get a PC or a Mac???

One of THOSE days

Today was one of those days. Every person who came into my office annoyed me. Everything they said rubbed me the wrong way. It didn't help that I was at work for 12 hours but it took all my will power not to go off (which if you know me takes an awful lot). I'm normally good at letting thing run off my back but some from reason I couldn't do that today..I guess we all have THOSE days. Hope tomorrow is better.

Household duties

Well today I had planned to finish painting the master bathroom.. but I had the hardest time motivating myself.. in the end we only hung blinds in the office and guest room, which was a tough job but we spent the rest of the day hanging out and watching TV.

It's funny going into the weekend you have so many plans but putting them into action is very tough, especially after spending months and months remodeling. I know this stuff needs to get done and I'm sure it will soon enough.. just not today.

Stuff Around the House

So much stuff still to do but it's the weekend and after a long work week it's hard to motivate myself to do anything. But of course I did do somethings. Here was my Saturday.

    • Had a skype call with my buddies from Treks in Sci Fi for their next podcast
    • Pulled out stuff (DVD's and accessories) from the garage and attempted to try and figure out what I was going to do next with it. I need to clean it up and try and make room for the contractor to start building my toy room. Harry and I also walked around the property and discussed all the yard work that needed done.. As for the garage I gave up, too overwhelmed.
    • Went and had lunch at Denny's
    • Went to Target and picked up some dog stuff along with a few accessories for the house.
    • Went to Bed Bath and Beyond and got a few more accessories for the house as well as some Xmas presents for Harry.
    • Went to Pet Smart to pick up a new dog lease for Daisy and also got a new playmate for her.
    • And finally went to Home Depot to pick up paint for our master bathroom which I am suppose to paint tomorrow.
Once I was home it was dark and I was exhausted from running around so I chilled. I tried several times to motivate myself to get up and do something but all I managed was pulling the DVD's out of boxes and setting them by the DVD racks. So I didn't do everything I wanted too.. but I did do some things. I know we have a life time of living here so we are in no rush but I would love to have a day when there is nothing to do on this house.. I'm sure the day will come but it seems so far away.

More Sceeners

Today I got more screeners.. that's one huge perk of being part of the PGA (Producer's Guild of America). So far I have gotten The Stoning of Soraya M., 500 Days of Summer, An Education, The Informant, Julie and Julia, Where the Wild Things Are, and today I got Up. I've also gotten a ton of invites to screenings but those are so much harder to attend because of scheduling. So screeners come on handy. Hopefully I'll get a for more before the end of the year.

Geek Heaven

Today I got half of my order of Blu Rays that I ordered from Amazon. I got Clone Wars Season 1 and of course The Clone Wars movie along with the new Star Trek. All in blu ray which will be cool since we don't have any blu ray discs other then Serenity (which I bought with the player to have at least one). Should be getting Harry Potter HBP and the Ultimate Year 1 and 2 Blu Rays in a few weeks.

V Episode Three

Just finished the 3rd episode and man is it getting good.

So many things.. first I love that the V traitors call themselves the 5th columnist like the original. Even though it wasn't a shocker it was revealed that Lisa is planning something for Tyler. And finding out that Lisa is actually Anna's daughter, didn't have a clue about that. I knew the gunman was going to be a V. I had no idea that the V doc was an 5th columnist.. that was a good OMG moment. I loved the scene with the four founding members of the Resistance meeting up in the church. I liked the people at the beginning giving confessions.. felt very real. I like that they revealed that over 600+ people died when the V's came. I also noticed that all the Captains of the 29 ships were male.. kind of like Anna being the Queen bee. So many things were revealed which made it such a fun episode and it just flew by. Can't wait for the fourth and finale episode this year..

Doctor Who: Waters of Mars

Just finished watching Doctor Who's Waters of Mars and in short it was kind of creepy, then tense, then sad and finally the OMG moments.

I think the doctor went way to far, the all powerful timelord that no one can stop. It was hard to see him get that way as that's so not how I see the doctor.. I wasn't liking him during his final speech.

I knew something was going to happen to the Captain.. it was all to easy. But I didn't expect her to kill herself, but like The Doctor said.. her death was a fixed point in time.. she would die that day and she did.

Hopefully her death will knock the Doctor back down to Earth. But I guess will see what happens in the next two parter Christmas/New Years specials. And then goodbye David Tennant and hello Matt Smith.

The Deck

Got up today all gung ho to get a ton of stuff done... well things didn't go quite as planned. In the morning I did a lot of podcast stuff. When Harry got up I went out back to clean up the deck area as it was really windy and we had debris all over the place. Halfway through that task Harry came out and helped out. We also ripped off all the blue liner that was covering the deck. We were happy to see that our deck isn't that bad.. a good sanding and staining and it should look awesome. We also did a few things around the outside of the house.

We watched a bit of TV and then decided to head into town and go grocery shopping and then pick up some lunch/dinner. Two hours later we were heading back home. We ate lunch/dinner and then watch a bit more TV. It was so difficult to motivate myself but I manage to get up and take some trash to the dumpster and then attempted to work on the garage which was what I wanted to do this weekend. Well that lasted 20 minutes as I realized I can't start this project so late in the day and that it's going to take an entire weekend to do. So I headed inside and just chilled out the rest of the night.

I really hate that it gets dark so early.. by 5:30pm it feels so late and my body checks out as soon as the sun goes down.

So we got a little bit of work done but far from what I had planned... hmmm maybe next weekend.

Painting the Master Bath

So much stuff planned this weekend...

Today I finally started to tape off and paint the Master Bathroom. Harry and I decided that we would so an accent color (a taupe/greenish color) on one of the ledges and then on the other wall as well as the water closet. Our main color will be a chocolate brown. Things started off great, I got the taping down and we started to paint. Around 1:30pm I realized I need to go to the post office to pick up a package that had been there a week and I had to get it before 3pm. So we headed to town and go the package, while in town we grabbed a bite to eat at Chills. When we got back home we were totally wiped. We watched some TV and after a while it took every bit of energy that I had to get back into that master bathroom and finish painting the access color. Luckily we did and I have to say it turned out pretty good... not to much bleeding.

So that's pretty much all we did on Saturday in regards to the house work. So much for getting a ton of stuff done. I had planned to do the Brown in the master bathroom but I really want to get to work on our garage so we can started planning my toy room.

Prepping Master Bathroom

After my visit with my Dad I got home around 6pm and started working on prepping the master bathroom for painting over the weekend. We still have boxes of stuff all over the place so that is what I did first. I put away and organized all our bathroom products. Now it's ready to be taped and painted. I took a short break to make some dinner for Harry and I and catch up on a little TV. Well that was a mistake as I was exhausted from a long day I never returned to prepping the bathroom. But at least it's cleaned up and should take too long to tape off the walls. Back to painting this weekend... joy...

Visiting Dad

Today I took off work to visit my Dad in the hospital. I knew it would be a few hours to get there and with the GPS it found a back way driving the 138 to 215 that it said was quicker. I went by myself as Harry decided that he didn't want to go. As I was driving Dad actually called me and asked if I would swing by the house and pick up some clothes for him. I told him I was going a completely different way and wasn't anywhere near his house but I could stop by a store and buy him what he needs. So that is what I did. I stopped by Walmart and picked him up some underwear, shorts and a T-shirt. I got to his room around 12:30pm.

He had tubes all over the place but he looked in good spirits. He said that they did the angioplasty and he was feeling much better. I spent about three hours chatting with him and visiting.

Found out that he indeed had a heart attack, this was he second in two years. And two of his heart valves are in good shape just needed a bit of cleaning, but the two other aren't fairing so well. They aren't bad enough to justify heart surgery but they aren't the most healthiest of valves. The Doctors want Dad to come back on a regular bases so they can keep in eye on those valves. If they get worse then he'll need to have them replaced. They are currently putting him on more meds to try and help control the issue.

He should be getting out of the hospital on Saturday or Sunday.

So not the greatest of news but it could have been so much worse.

Again thanks to all my twitter and facebook friends for moral support.. it helped very much.

Dad in Hospital

Today around 5pm my sister-in-law called me and said that my brother had just called 911 for my Dad. I immediately called him to find out what had happened. He said it looks as though Dad is having another heart attack.

An hour later he called me back and informed me that Dad was in bad shape. Several of his heart valves were clogged and several were in bad shape. He was currently in stable condition and they were going to do an angioplasty on the clogged valves.

There was nothing I could do, which was the worse part. I had informed my boss that I would be taking off tomorrow so I can go down and visit him.

    I'll keep you posted

PS.. thank you to all my friends on facebook and twitter for all your wonderful support.. really meant a lot to me.

PGA Screeners

Finally got my first movie screeners for the award season.. been waiting all month. First one I got was "The Stoning of Soraya M." Sounds like a really heavy movie.. not sure I'll be watching this one. I'm hoping more will arrive soon.

Making Changes

I love when you are finally done and very happy with the final results, but realize that you left something out and have to go back and re-edit.

Might sounds simple but when I'm down with editing the podcast I output (which takes about 30 minutes), then I run it through levelator (which levels out all the audio, which takes another 30 minutes) but that leaves it in a .aiff format which doesn't work for podbean so I then have to bring it into Audacity and output it as an .mp3 and that take about 15 minutes. And finally if I remember I bring it into itunes to add the photo. So once I'm done editing the piece there is still another hour and 15 minutes of outputting before it is ready.

I had to go back and cut in the piece that I forget and then start this process over once again. Oh well the piece had to be in there and It think this pt 1 or Ep 10 turned out pretty good. Can't wait to post it.

Editing my Podcast

After a long day of work I came home and started working on editing KOTG ep 10 pt 1. I had already went through the hours of audio and cut it down to what was needed. I am not cutting it all together with the bumpers and dissolves and making it all pretty. Should be done tonight but won't post it until Nov. 15th. Ep 10 pt 2 is still waiting to be cut down before being assembled.

Clash of the Titans

I am a huge fan of mythology so of course when I was a kid I loved Clash of the Titans.

When I think of my favorite childhood movies, along with Star Wars, Willow, Krull, Last Starfighter and of course Clash of the Titans so when I heard they were making a re-make I was a little skeptical but figured I would give them a change.. well I started to see pictures a few weeks ago and they looked pretty good.. well moments ago they released the very first teaser trailer for the new remake and all I have to say is WOW... it looks AWESOME... I can't wait to see this movie. This trailer really got me pumped for this movie.

Satellite Internet

Today I was feeling a bit better but still having some stomach issues and it still feels like someone is poking my eyes from the inside.

But today our Satellite internet company HughesNet was coming by at 9am to install our new internet service. I don't know much about Satellite internet but because of where we live and lack of any kind of broadband service this was our only option. We currently have an internet service and though it's better then dial up it's a far cry from DSL or Broadband.

Yesterday I did some research and found HughesNet. They had six different speeds to choose from. Since Harry and I are big into the internet we went with a fairly fast speed. We choose their Elite service, just two shy of there fastest. It's going to cost up $120 month but if the speed is even close to where they say it will be.. it will be worth the money.

After three hours our new internet was up and running.. we did a few speed tests and were very pleased with the results... now will have to see if it continues.

I've heard some not so good thing with Satellite service but all we can do is hope for the best.

After that I dragged myself to work.. I'm not feeling 100% but I'll survive.

Still Sick but it's Work Time

Still not feeling great but it's Monday and time to for work. I probably would have stayed home and rested but I had two new employees starting today so I have to be here to meet and greet and fill out new paperwork. And of course neither of them were coming in until 4pm. So I struggled through the day going back and forth from my office to the bathroom.

During the day Harry finally had it with our home internet so I did some research and ordered a Satellite internet service.. should be getting that installed in a few days.. hopefully that will take care of our horribly slow internet.

After work I went home and rested a bit, but then I did a little editing on my Knights of the Guild podcast as it's needs to be done by the 15th.

Painting the Master Bath... Not!!!

I haven't been feeling 100% the past few days but nothing serious... well that kind of changed in the early AM. Around 3am I woke up sweating and starving (like major hunger pains). I got up and made me a sandwich and started to feel a little better. Woke up around 8am and was feeling okay.. I had some breakfast and that when it began.. for the rest of the day I was in and out of the bathroom.. I was feeling horrible and it felt like someone was poking my eyeballs from the inside. Needless to say I did very little painting or prepping the bathroom for painting. It bummed me out as I really wanted to get that done but I just didn't feel good. Hopefully next weekend will be the weekend we finish our painting.

I was so exhausted that I was ready for bed by 7pm.. but managed to stay awake until 11pm.

Podcasting Live

Today we recorded our 10th episode of Knights of the Guild podcast but this time we were broadcasting via webcam on livestream. This was our first time so things didn't quite go as planned. It started off fine.. we did our interview with Sean (audio guy) and it went great. We then started our podcast and turned on the livestream feed. We started the podcast and got about ten minutes in and realized that the audio was one correctly configured so folks watching couldn't hear anything. I just happen to look over at the chat window and people were frantically typing "WE CAN'T HEAR YOU". We quickly fixed the problem and continued with the podcast. For about and hour things were moving along nicely. The webcam would move and I'd be cut out of frame but again we would look at the chat room and they would let us know. We then started getting "trolls" in our chat. If you don't know what a troll is, it's a person (if you can all them that) that join the chat and will swear, attack and otherwise disrupt the chat room. We had several of them and I keep trying to ban them but with livestream you can only ban the name and not the IP address.. so I would ban them and they would sign back on with another name and so on and so on. After a while I gave up and we continued to do the podcast.

When we were done it seemed that those who joined us enjoyed it. We had alot of fun doing it but because of the trolls it kind of ended the night on a down. But I'll be looking into either another live web cam service, one that I can ban IP address or looking into livestream closer to see if there is something I can do.

The night ended on a high as we received a $100 donation moments after the podcast had ended and that made both Jenni and my night.

Will be doing another live feed but we will now know what to expect and be prepared for it.

More House Work

Today I spent the day organizing the office space, emptying out boxes and finding a place for everything. I also finished setting up our other three TV's/DirectTV and activating them. Of course things never go as planned and our direct TV box in our guest room is not working properly so I have to investigate it further, but I did get the TV working on our master bedroom and our office.

Another Week Over

Well work is moving along slowly but that's how it normally is during the beginning of a show. I guess I should enjoy this slow period as it won't last and soon I'll be pulling what hair I have left out. One bright spot today was lunchtime. Today I got to see my good friend Christopher. Both of our lives are so hectic that we don't get to see each other as often as we like but we still try and have lunch or dinner once a month. Today we had lunch at Islands and it was alot of fun catching up. I am sooooo looking forward to the weekend.

Dinner with Friends

This evening Harry and I went to a dinner party over at our friends John and Moises' place. Joining us was Tom, Ervin and Bruce.

It was so great seeing these guys as it's been a few months because of the move and all. We normally got together with these guys every week for TV night at our place but since we moved and now that we live a bit further out we are not having our weekly TV nights and I really miss seeing everyone on a regular bases.

Once again Moises made a wonderful dinner and the company was great. John was showing off his new Mac and of course Harry and Bruce were loving it.

Harry and I have been so busy with the house that it was nice to actually hang out with friends again.. will have to do it more often.

Is Social Media A Fad

I came across this awesome video on you tube asking is Social Media a Fad. If you know me you know I'm huge into social media networks. I did Friendster back in the day and then My Space and currently I'm on Facebook, Twitter and Simlar as well as being connected with a alot of people online via forums and podcasts.

After watching the video and all the data and stats it gives you, it's clear that social media is the wave of the future.. speaking of waves.. have you joined Google Wave?? I have....

V

They finally premiered V on ABC.

First let me say I'm an old school V fan. I watched the first 4 hour miniseries back in the early 80's with my family and then the follow up 6 hour mini series two years after that and was in love. I watched the series over and over as we recorded it on our brand new VCR. In 1989 when they premiered the TV series I was right there waiting with baited breath and loved ever minute of it. Looking back now both mini series hold up pretty well but the TV series has some really cheesy episodes that didn't age will.. but I still love them. So to say I was super excited for this new version of V is an understatement.

I missed the sneak preview at comic con this year (which really bummed me out) so I have been counting down the days for this premiere. Quick thoughts... I really enjoyed the new re-imagined V. It was alot of the same storyline as the original but with some twists here and there.. the biggest is that there have been aliens (V's) living on Earth for years(?). I think they established each character, revealed the storyline and got a good start to the story. I really enjoyed the sfx.. the shuttlecrafts were cool and the inside of the mother ships were like small cities in space.. a big difference from the original. I really like Anna (Morena)'s character.. some of the looks she gave sent shivers down my spine. I like their version of the 5th Columnists (V traitors). This has only been the first episode but I can't wait to see where they take this storyline. Will they pull from the original or vear off on their own.

I do have a few complaints, at the beginning after the ships arrive and Anna gives her speech suddenly everyone breaks into applause. I mean aliens just arrive causing world wide panic and then after a five minute speech from some pretty women who looks human, they all applaud and cheer them. I don't think people are that gullible, at least I'm not. Yes I'm sure they were happy that they didn't attack but everyone around the world all clapping.. with the original V the ships came and sat in the sky for a few hours, then there was contact and folks were still skeptical then they had the meet up and still folks were skeptical.. This all took place in a matter of days not minutes. The other thing is how did the army get in the streets of NY so quickly.. it's like the ships arrived and there they were managing crowds. Did the government know they were coming?? And how lucky Erica when she found her son just a few feet from her in the middle of New York. Also with technology today you would think the world scientist and astronomers would have seen 29 huge ships coming towards Earth years in advance .. but like I have said.. maybe they did and world government had be hiding that news. But even with all those little grips.. the series was alot of fun. I'm a disappointed that ABC is airing only 4 episodes in Nov and then the rest next year in March.. I just hope this doesn't kill the series. I guess only time will tell.

Of course all this stuff it just things you have to ignore for the story to work and it didn't bother me but did make me think.

Cleaning House

Today I spent the morning sweeping and cleaning the hardwood floors.. it's been a few weeks and there was a ton of dust and dog hair. After that I dusted all the furniture in the living room, dining room and TV room. This took a few hours to do all this and I know this will be a constant battle. After that I continued to put away laundry that I had washed a few days ago.

Harry and I then went to Ikea to pick up some shelves for our pantry. Once I got home we built it shelves and placed it in the pantry. After that I did a quick clean up of the kitchen. Now our house is looking great.. only a few more things to put away in the office and we still need to hang some curtains. And of course we still have to hang pictures and accessorize the place but it's coming together.

Next up we move to outside.. so much work to do.
